"Chemistry Bridging Innovation Among the Americas and the World"

The Colegio de Químicos de Puerto Rico (CQPR) and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) hosted the 43rd IUPAC World Chemistry Congress, 46th IUPAC General Assembly and 70th Colegio de Químicos Annual Conference and Exhibition. These gatherings where held in San Juan, Puerto Rico from July 27 to August 7, 2011.

We were delighted to receive all IUPAC Delegates, speakers, students, sponsors, exhibitors, participants, workshop/symposia/scientific program organizers and award recipients. The IUPAC Congress activities took place from Sunday, July 31 to Friday, August 5. The IUPAC General Assembly started on Wednesday, July 27 and ended on Thursday, August 4. The last two days, August 6 and 7, were reserved for the local Colegio de Químicos activities and Annual Assembly.

Registration totaled 2,137 congress participants and 407 exhibitors. A total of 1131 scientific papers were presented in 7 plenary lectures (all by Nobel Laureates), a special lecture, 35 symposia (93 sessions), 55 general oral sessions and 23 poster sessions. Also, 31 continuing education courses were featured.

We thank the Colegio de Químicos staff, the IUPAC staff, the ACS staff, the PR Convention Center staff, and the many volunteers (all 295 volunteers and staff) that made this Congress a productive and enjoyable one.
